Top Five City Pharma Must-Have Beauty Picks

City Phama is a beauty lovers dream.  Yes, I can call it a store, a pharmacy, but oh it is so much more.  I am currently going through a beauty withdraw since many of the items I purchased last summer from City Pharm in Paris are now practically empty.  So it is my emptying makeup bag that caused me to look at my summer photos from Paris and it is with much joy that I a recall my visit.

Located in Saint Germain, City Pharma is where fashion and beauty insiders from all over the world gather to purchase their must-have beauty items. There is always a flurry of people at the corner of the store and if you happen to visit I highly recommend taking the beautiful walk down Rue Bonaparte (Bonaparte Street) for your visit.

City Pharma

Walking through the doors immediately introduces you to the charged atmosphere inside.  Here women carrying baskets filled to the brim of lotions, boxes of skincare products, vitamins and brushes are quickly hurrying about while checking off lists on paper, iPads and mobile phones to ensure they pick up of every essential beauty item. Really, the mood is frantic with many people rushing around as if the store is about to close in a few moments or if they will miss a connecting flight.

This excitement comes from the great selection and the affordable affordable prices not seen at other French pharmacies.  The store also carries many two for one deals so when come to shop you can always be greeted by a nice surprise.

The service is also impeccable.  Staff are dressed in pristine White lab coats and are knowledgeable and patient.  During one visit I actually had a face cream in my basket that I wanted to try and upon asking a staff member if I should buy it she firmly responded with a firm “no” saying that I shouldn’t purchase a product that isn’t made for my skin just because I read about it in a magazine.  While she was abrupt I appreciated the honesty and the experienced reinforced my love for this special place.

More importantly I found some wonderful buys and here are my top five beauty picks from City Phama.

1. Bioderma Sensibio Micellar Water

When I visited my Dermatologist in Paris she recommended Micellar Water to clean my face and to remove makeup.  Micellar Water may be a new product in the United States but French women learn to use this product as very young children.  I  have sensitive skin that gets red very easily; and when I use it gently removes my makeup.  It also never leaves my face tight or dry.  I am so addicted I carry a little sample size around with me in case I ever need a touch up.

2. Eau Thermale Avene Cleanance Masque

I heard so much about this product it was on the top of my beauty list. This mask cleans clogged pores and is good for oily skin.  I use it once a week all over my face for about 10 minutes to refresh and recharge my skin.  It is especially good to remove blackheads from the noise and chin.

3. Uriage Roseliane Anti-Redness Cream

This cream is a perfect way to avoid red and irritated skin. Just a little dab every evening, is calming and soothing on my face. It is also non-greasy and hydrating which is good to use when the weather in changing and skin is readjusting to the weather.

4. Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre

A beauty model secret that has been famous since 1950, this unscented cream is a favorite of Karlie Kloss at New York Fashion Week and was rumored to be Jane Birkin’s cream of choice. The formula is simple, Paraben-free, and has a very subtle scent.  Light to the touch, this creme retains water in the skin and makes you feel that you are not wearing anything at all. I especially like it because I can put it on in the morning and my skin drinks it in quickly leaving a perfect finish for my makeup.

5. Bioderma Atoderm Stick

Since I am a Bioderma fan I had to try to Atoderm Stick especially with the buy 2 get one free package. The Shea Butter formula really makes my chapped lips feel comforted and is great for touch-ups at work.

City Pharma has many other wonderful products and like the Eiffel Tower or the Mona Lisa really is a must-stop on your next trip to Paris.

Violet Lips at the Oscars and New York Fashion Week

Violet lips have been popping up everywhere from the red carpet at the Oscars in Hollywood to the runways of New York Fashion Week for Fall 2015.

At the Oscars, Violet Lips on Naomi Watts paired perfectly with her black Armani couture dress at the 87th Academy Awards.

Naomi

Naomi’s beauty look was created to be soft but have a bit of edge. L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Last Color in Violet Parfait was applied and is a shade likened to a bruised plum.

At Nanette Leopore, the look for fall 2015 was a posh rebel school girl.

Nanette Lepore

The collection contained fun prints and pretty jewel tones, and the violet lips created with Color Sensational Rebel Bloom in Orchid Ectasy by Maybelline complimented the collection in a bold and sexy way.

So you heard it hear first, Violet is the trend in Hollywood, and New York and maybe your hometown.

Rich Girl Hair at Jason Wu for Fall 2015

A big trend that I adore is the new “Rich Girl Hair” look seen at Jason Wu and Prabal Gurung for the Fall 2015 shows in New York City.

Actually Kathleen Hou from the Cut dubbed the hair with this phrase, but no matter what you want to call it the hair is long, and straight with a slight wave. Unlike the popular “Beach Wave” this hair looks more natural and sophisticated with the wave in the middle portion of the hair.

The trick to create the wave is to only put the hot curling iron on the hair for a second: but of course hair never looks as good as when it is professionally blown out.  In fact, I love this look so much I cannot wait for fall and plan on wearing this look now – unfortunately if I see you on the street it will be hard to see my hair under my winter hat.

Naturally Nouveau by Stila is face of beauty for Rebecca Minkoff Spring 2015

New York Fashion Week for Spring 2015 has kicked off in style with the Rebecca Minkoff show and the Natural Look is proving to be a big look for spring as seen on the runway by Stila.

To recreate the look from the show you need:

Eyes Are The Window Shadow Palette in Mind

All Over Shimmer Powder in Kitten,

Mile High Lashes Mascara

Color Balm Lipstick in Vivienne

As the shows evolve we will continue to report on the beauty trends; personally I think this is going to be a huge trend that we will see again.  Actually I want to wear the Color Balm Lipstick now in fall since the formula nourishes lips and is a great way to combat the cold air and dryness.
Well I hope you have a beautiful weekend.

Get your own pair of Google Glass for one day only

Are you always on the forefront of style, fashion and technology?  If so your lucky day will arrive on Tuesday, April 15 when Google will make sales of Google Glass available to everyone in the United States for $1,500.00.

Image

This special sale is the first time the tech device is available to the general public; previously only Google “Explorers” or “early adopters” or developers could make a purchase.

The sale starts at 9 a.m. ET on April 15 and any individual making a first time purchase will receive a free frames or sunglasses but supply is limited.

Google Glass has been making news headlines most recently with a partnership with Luxottica, an Italian Brand best known for Ray-Ban and Oakley brands and licensing agreements with the likes of Prada, Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana and Coach to market the Glass collection in 2015 and to offer prescription glasses.

Controversy has also surrounded Google Glass as it carries an Orwellian small camera that can record 720p video or snap still photos with no indicator light showing when the camera is on; therefore pictures or short films can be taken almost secretly and so Google Glass has been banned from many bars and restaurants. It has also taken the fashion world by storm walking the runway at Diane Von Furstenberg with Sergey Brin at New York Fashion Week.

Will you make a Google Glass purchase?

Models on the runway wore soft and stained berry lip, reminiscent of a heroine in a black and white movie.

The look was achieved by applying Michael Kors Lip Lacquer in Dame and blotting numerous times; sealing in the color by setting the lips with powder.

Violet and berry shades are the color story for 2014, as Pantone has announced Radiant Orchard is the color of the year for home, beauty and fashion and you can read more about the trend on my post for the Examiner.

Will you be wearing hues of Radiant Orchard this year?

Marc Jacobs Pop – Up Shop Only Accepts Tweets as Payment

Marc Jacobs opened a Daisy fragrance Pop – Up shop in Soho during Fashion Week with a social media twist. This unique shop did not accept money and only accepted social currency in the form of Tweets, Facebook posts and Instagram photos.

The innovative shop was brought in part by the large amount of Social Media love given to Marc Jacobs fragrance Daisy, which has one of the highest engagement levels on Facebook.  Fans of the fragrance often go to great lengths to publish innovative photos, personal drawings and accolades on Social Media and so this shopping experience was a good way to ‘thank’ fans and launch a new Daisy print campaign. Pop – Up shoppers used the Hashtag #MJDaisyChain as payment for Marc Jacobs-branded gifts ranging from perfume, necklaces and purses.

This marketing experiment was also a reflection of  fashion houses like Dior and Kate Spade entry into the Social Media market and finding new and innovative ways to sell their luxury products to a target audience.

The use of Social Media currency shows the ongoing struggle for companies to accurately measure the actual ‘value’ of a Social Media campaign or more specifically the cost of a Tweet, Facebook Like or Instagram photo.

So while companies continue to engage in Social Media campaigns to uncover the actual value of engagement, fans get to benefit from the innovative ways companies are engaging audiences.
