Violet Lips at the Oscars and New York Fashion Week

Violet lips have been popping up everywhere from the red carpet at the Oscars in Hollywood to the runways of New York Fashion Week for Fall 2015.

At the Oscars, Violet Lips on Naomi Watts paired perfectly with her black Armani couture dress at the 87th Academy Awards.

Naomi

Naomi’s beauty look was created to be soft but have a bit of edge. L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Last Color in Violet Parfait was applied and is a shade likened to a bruised plum.

At Nanette Leopore, the look for fall 2015 was a posh rebel school girl.

Nanette Lepore

The collection contained fun prints and pretty jewel tones, and the violet lips created with Color Sensational Rebel Bloom in Orchid Ectasy by Maybelline complimented the collection in a bold and sexy way.

So you heard it hear first, Violet is the trend in Hollywood, and New York and maybe your hometown.

Charlotte Ronson “Morning After Beauty” fall 2015

Charlotte Ronson designs for the ‘it’ girls and for fall 2015 she delivers with a fresh “Morning After Beauty” look with a collection that is flirty, delicate and filled with light military touches.

The show was set in a mysterious modern, urban garden surrounded by oversize flowers and granite prints in shades of deep Blue, Steel Grey and deep Magenta. Feminine materials dominated many looks with sheer tops paired with boxy knit sweaters or fitted trousers.  Refined and edgy, the line was dominated with softer lines fueled by late 60’s sportswear.

The beauty look or shall I say the “Morning After Beauty” look is so natural, so simple, it appears one is not wearing any makeup at all, and that is simply becoming the huge trend for fall.

Charlotte Ronson6

To get this look the big beauty takeaways from the show are the imperfectly smudged eye, perfect brow and natural skin all created by Mehron Makeup.

Eyes –  E.Y.E Powder in Espresso and Coco

Eye Liner – E.Y.E linen Pencil in Dark Brown created the imperfect eyes

LIps – Cherrywood L.I.P Cream

Here are some of my favorite looks from the show.

Charlotte Ronoson

I love the shape of this dress paired with the blue tights. Ladylike and edgy.

Perfectly sized knits paired with feminine lace details.

Large floral prints will be making waves this fall.

Very Berry Lips for Spring at Michael Kors

Romantic, and very berry lips are making news this spring at Michael Kors

Models on the runway wore soft and stained berry lip, reminiscent of a heroine in a black and white movie.

The look was achieved by applying Michael Kors Lip Lacquer in Dame and blotting numerous times; sealing in the color by setting the lips with powder.

Violet and berry shades are the color story for 2014, as Pantone has announced Radiant Orchard is the color of the year for home, beauty and fashion and you can read more about the trend on my post for the Examiner.

Will you be wearing hues of Radiant Orchard this year?

Marc Jacobs Pop – Up Shop Only Accepts Tweets as Payment

Marc Jacobs opened a Daisy fragrance Pop – Up shop in Soho during Fashion Week with a social media twist. This unique shop did not accept money and only accepted social currency in the form of Tweets, Facebook posts and Instagram photos.

marc jacobs, heather neisworth, @heathgirl, bementioned, social media, online marketing, tweets, twitter, instagram, new york city, new york, new york fashion week, marc jacobs, fashion, beauty, daisy, fragrance, perfume,

The innovative shop was brought in part by the large amount of Social Media love given to Marc Jacobs fragrance Daisy, which has one of the highest engagement levels on Facebook.  Fans of the fragrance often go to great lengths to publish innovative photos, personal drawings and accolades on Social Media and so this shopping experience was a good way to ‘thank’ fans and launch a new Daisy print campaign. Pop – Up shoppers used the Hashtag #MJDaisyChain as payment for Marc Jacobs-branded gifts ranging from perfume, necklaces and purses.

This marketing experiment was also a reflection of  fashion houses like Dior and Kate Spade entry into the Social Media market and finding new and innovative ways to sell their luxury products to a target audience.

The use of Social Media currency shows the ongoing struggle for companies to accurately measure the actual ‘value’ of a Social Media campaign or more specifically the cost of a Tweet, Facebook Like or Instagram photo.

So while companies continue to engage in Social Media campaigns to uncover the actual value of engagement, fans get to benefit from the innovative ways companies are engaging audiences.

Spring 2014 Beauty Trends

Casual Buns and Low Ponytails

Rejoice the low Ponytail is back in all forms: messy, sleek, wavy and everything in between.  Seen at the Zang Toi, Honor and Jason Wu shows this timeless classic is now ready to gain the respect it deserves and women everywhere can rejoice at the simplicity of the look.

Orange Lips

Orange is the next big color and it showed up on the runways on lips in electric hues as spotted at Rag and Bone, DKNY and at Dennis Basso.

No Makeup

Many designers went so beauty basic the makeup wasn’t there.  To achieve this look you just need some moisturizer and concealer, a dab of blush and a touch of liner. I usually think of this look as the weekend brunch look and I don’t feel it is appropriate for the office but designers like Alexander Wang and Proenza Schouler make a good point to return to basic beauty.

Metallic Eyes

Glitter and shimmer is all the rage for Spring 2014.  Once reserved for the tween-set, metallics are all grown up and can be used as a primary shade on the eyes or as an accent for those less bold. Charlotte Ronson, Carmen Marc Volvo and Jenny Packham

White Nails

Simple white nails are the hottest thing for Spring; and it doesn’t matter if they are matte, shiny, or glossy.  Just think White and your nails will be on trend or ready for nail art designs that are becoming the rage at Kate Spade and Nanette Lepore.

Brown Lips

Brown is back and stronger than ever as seen at Derek Lam and Chris Benz. While the look is reminiscent of a Grunge look this lighter shade is more now and really appropriate for this fall season.

Moon Manicures

The Moon Manicure continues into spring as a major accessory. Now evolving into multiple shades and colors from humble origins on the Ruffian Runway, and Lela Rose shows.

I plan on wearing the Ruffian Moon Manicure now for fall. What trend will you be ready to wear for Spring?  Or is there a trend that you will be wearing now?

Bright Orange Lips Trend for Spring 2014 at Rag and Bone

Orange Lips made headlines at Rag and Bone for New York Fashion Week Spring 2014.

This orange is a bright matte shade, created by makeup artist and Revlon Global Artistic Director Gucci Westman. The special shade is inspired by the Brazil World Cup.

elle-rag-and-bone-spring-2014-rtw-03-de-91459442-xln

This groundbreaking shade, which is custom created and not available for purchase was created by layering Revlon ColorBurst Matte Balm in Mischievous and Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Carnival together. Both shades are not yet available but will be arriving to stores in 2014; but in case you need to wear the trend now a good alternative is Tart and Trendy, a bright neutral orange lipstick cream by MAC Cosmetics.

Rag-and-Bone-RS14-5169-300x450

Bright Orange lips were also seen on the runways at DKNY, Dennis Basso and Prabal Gurung.

A special tip to remember when creating this look is to protect your lips from drying out, in order for the matte look to look perfect, place a hydrating color first on your lips then a liner over the color.

Let me know if you plan on rocking the Orange Matte look for this spring or will you be wearing it sooner?

New York Fashion Week Survival Gear

Surviving New York Fashion Week requires all of your energy; and while you are running around uptown from Lincoln Center to downtown at Milk Studios it’s important to look and feel your best so here are my top picks for my New York Fashion Week Survival Gear.

Screen shot 2013-09-05 at 4.41.51 PM

My look for Fashion Week is paired down simplicity because I need to keep my energy up and beauty products that help me while I am on the go.

This season I am determined to keep my bag as light as possible.  Lucky for me for boyfriend Andres purchased me an iPad mini which when paired with a remote keyboard allows me to lighten my purse load and allows me to blog anywhere.

My basic beauty necessities are well…basic.

Green Tea.  I love Green Tea for the Antioxidants and it’s a good way for me to take a break.  Just add hot water and get centered.

Nars “The Multiple” in G-Spot.  The name may be racy but this product is a life saver as it is a eyes, lip and cheek color all in-one, and since my lips get chapped easily the Vitamin-E complex soothes my skin.

Evian Facial Spray. Quench dry skin, set makeup, and just get refreshed with a simple mist of this water only based spray.

Shu Uemura White Pencil. This simple little waterproof pencil is an easy way to refresh and open tired eyes. Begin by running a white pencil along the lower waterline and be careful not to make the line to thick.  This beauty artist trick gives you a more wide awake appearance and also makes the whites of your eyes appear brighter. If white is too stark, try a pale gold pencil instead.
