Liven Up Your Hair This Spring

As a busy consultant, blogger and fiancée planning a wedding, life can be busy.  Add in one daily commute into the heart of Washington, D.C. and a love of yoga and I am left with little time for a lengthy beauty routine. Ultimately I have to make every minute count in my daily beauty ritual.

Head and Shoulders made my hair smooth and manageable.

Make no mistake… hair is a big part of my beauty ritual, for beautiful, healthy hair is important to me.  When my hair looks good, I feel good.  So even as I have been embracing the no-makeup makeup trend (which Marc Jacobs declared by the way as already over) there can be no debate to maintain fabulous hair every day. Since my hair is naturally wavy and frizzy, it’s important for me to have smooth locks to define my style and give me a polished appearance so I look put-together from a morning meeting to an after-hours get-together with friends.

Recently, I was invited to try Head and Shoulders Smooth and Silky formula Shampoo and Conditioner and I can say I have been very pleased with the results on my hair.  The scent is light and refreshing and my favorite part is the special formula that contains a unique 24 hour frizz control that tames stray hairs.  So when I wake up at the crack of dawn, my hair is frizz-free and I save time to spend on other important things like a cup of coffee for breakfast.

Head and Shoulders made a noticeable difference in my hair.

Head and Shoulders is available at Target, my new favorite beauty stop, which is great because I eliminate a trip to a special beauty store and make a smart and savvy purchase on my budget. Now at Target if you buy 3 bottles of Head and Shoulders, in special limited edition bottles, you get a $5 Target gift card so everyone can make the switch to be frizz-free.(http://pubads.g.doubleclick.net/gampad/clk?id=151829163&iu=/5485/sugar.pop/track)

This offer ends May 16th so hurry over! So here’s to the start of a beautiful spring, with more time on our hands and gorgeous hair. “Disclosure: This post was sponsored by Head & Shoulders at Target through their partnership with POPSUGAR. Five Tips for Healthy Winter Hair

This winter season keep your tresses looking their best with my five tips for healthy winter hair.

Winter means snow, holidays and indoor fun but this intense season can bring about changes to your hair.

To help keep your tresses looking their best, here is an easy list of factors to consider this season and how you ‘prepare your hair’ to be swoon ready.

1. Cold Weather – Cool weather can leave your hair vulnerable to breakage, so try a deep conditioning treatment once a week to infuse your hair with necessary oils like Philip B. White Truffle Nourishing and Conditioning Cream.

2. Indoor Heat – Being indoors exposes your hair to additional heat, which can leave it dull and dry and strip out the color.  Keep your hair shiny and healthy by using a color specific shampoo to match your shade and to keep your color longer.

3. Wind- Winter wind can make a perfectly styled hairdo and make it unrecognized the minute you arrive to the office. Protect your hair with a stylish hat like a hand knit beanie complete with a pom-pom from Grevi and use a shine boosting serum like Citre Shine Anti-Frizz Serum when you take off your hat to smooth hair easily into place.

4. Hair Static – Limit hair static by brushing hair with a brush made from natural, not plastic, materials.

5. Too Frequent Washing – When hair looks blah, too often we wash it and frequent washings and blow-outs can damage hair.  When you blow dry your hair make sure to towel dry hair first then use a hair dryer on a lower heat setting.

Ruffian launches a brand new Lacquer Line with Birchbox

Ruffian, the design house known to popularize the Moon Manicure, has launched the line’s first lacquer collection with Birchbox just in time for the New York Fashion Week Spring 2014 shows.

Ruffian is known being innovative with accessories, right down to their custom created nail art in recent shows, and the popularity of their nail designs helped launch their first ever nail lacquer collection.

I recently reported on Ruffian’s snakeskin nails which were part of a brilliant Goth-Sherlock Holmes inspired Fall 2013 collection at New York Fashion Week and it looks like the designing duo wants to continue their beauty accessory success.

This line contains two collections.  The Crowdsourced Collection, which borrows its name from the tech world, contains three colors handpicked from the designers’ Facebook followers. Shades include “Hedge Fund,” a sophisticated olive oil shade of green mixed with a golden shimmer, “Delirium,” a bright, saturated purple with an eye-popping metallic finish and “Fox Hunt,” a rich orange with a touch of shimmer.  And while the colors are spot on for the fall 2013 season the lacquers are made to last with a chip-resistant, high-gloss formula.

The second collection is called the Classics containing the already famous “Ruffian Red” brick hue that fashionistas swear by, with two more of their well-known shades: a creamy neutral beige named “Ruffian Naked” and a smoky black “Cire Noir.”

Refinery 29 has reported models in the Ruffian Spring 2014 show at New York Fashion Week will be wearing the Crowdsourced Collection, so if you want to be ahead of the beauty trends you can wear these shades now to show you are in the beauty know.

Ruffian Snakeskin Nails and Victorian Goth for fall 2013 #NYFW

Ruffian for Fall 2013 at New York Fashion Week showed a “Just Bitten” beauty look with black, snakeskin-like nails topped with a Cameo and Tulle.

Fitted jackets, A-line skirts, cropped pants all based in shades of black were complimented by rich Byzantine colors and tactile textures, all calling to a modern woman with a busy schedule and a crush on Benedict Cumberbatch as the modern Sherlock Holmes.

Ruffian is becoming know for styling creative nail designs for runway shows as seen with the red and violet velvet nails that created a stir and lead Ruffian to create their own nail polish with Birchbox.  So Fall  2013 was no exception with MAC lead manicurist Keri Blair created a  “Victorian Gothic Veiled Nail” with a lengthy almond shape inspired by Barbara Streisand. This look was created by placing MAC Nail Lacquer in Nightfall, a pearlized grey, on the underside; while the top side is covered with blackest-black Nocturnelle.

Next, a rough-cut thin veil of black tulle is placed on top and a top coat is placed to secure the tulle. The veil is then trimmed to size, allowing the edges to show and a mini flat-back cameo is placed along with another layer of tulle for a “bride-in-mourning” look.

The runway fashion highlighted simple of hip-skimming jackets for day and longer lengths for night paired with iridescent reptile prints made for a series of luxurious and wearable looks including leather and velvet. Accessories that will be trending big this fall from the show include ruffles, chokers, bows, collars and other neckline embellishments, but my favorite accessory is a funky Sherlock Holmes inspired hat that promises to trend as a big attention getter and another Sherlock Holmes reference.

Ruffian fall proves black is anything but basic and with an interesting mix of fabrics, textures and unique fashion and beauty accessories.

The two trends that inspired me most when I attended the show, and that I will be rocking this fall, will be the black nails and Sherlock hat.
