Spring 2014 Beauty Trends

Casual Buns and Low Ponytails

Rejoice the low Ponytail is back in all forms: messy, sleek, wavy and everything in between.  Seen at the Zang Toi, Honor and Jason Wu shows this timeless classic is now ready to gain the respect it deserves and women everywhere can rejoice at the simplicity of the look.

Orange Lips

Orange is the next big color and it showed up on the runways on lips in electric hues as spotted at Rag and Bone, DKNY and at Dennis Basso.

No Makeup

Many designers went so beauty basic the makeup wasn’t there.  To achieve this look you just need some moisturizer and concealer, a dab of blush and a touch of liner. I usually think of this look as the weekend brunch look and I don’t feel it is appropriate for the office but designers like Alexander Wang and Proenza Schouler make a good point to return to basic beauty.

Metallic Eyes

Glitter and shimmer is all the rage for Spring 2014.  Once reserved for the tween-set, metallics are all grown up and can be used as a primary shade on the eyes or as an accent for those less bold. Charlotte Ronson, Carmen Marc Volvo and Jenny Packham

White Nails

Simple white nails are the hottest thing for Spring; and it doesn’t matter if they are matte, shiny, or glossy.  Just think White and your nails will be on trend or ready for nail art designs that are becoming the rage at Kate Spade and Nanette Lepore.

Brown Lips

Brown is back and stronger than ever as seen at Derek Lam and Chris Benz. While the look is reminiscent of a Grunge look this lighter shade is more now and really appropriate for this fall season.

Moon Manicures

The Moon Manicure continues into spring as a major accessory. Now evolving into multiple shades and colors from humble origins on the Ruffian Runway, and Lela Rose shows.

I plan on wearing the Ruffian Moon Manicure now for fall. What trend will you be ready to wear for Spring?  Or is there a trend that you will be wearing now?

Red Leather Rocks at Blumarine for Spring 2014

Pure Femininity, lace, red leather and butterflies graced the runway at the Blumarine Spring 2014 fashion show in Milan, Italy.

Leather and lace are two big trends for Fall 2013, and by the looks of the Spring shows Leather is evolving into a soft and sophisticated option.

The red Leather skirt is my absolute favorite look from the Blumarine show.

Now Blumarine showed some delicate and angelic white dresses, which stood out in contrast to the red leather skirt which is a bold choice for Spring.

Will you decide to be rocking red leather this spring?

Red Carpet Nail Trends from the 65th Emmy Awards

The Emmy Awards took place in glamourous California on Sunday evening and as the drama built onstage the red carpet looks were even more dramatic with stunning gowns by all the designers you love and the new fall trend ” lacquered nails as accessories” created by Essie.

I can’t rave enough about Mad Men’s star Jessica Pare teal blue dress Inspiration.  I also wish I could be an actress and sing “Zou Bisou Bisou to John Hamm, but that is another column.  Jessica’s nail accessory look was created with the Brooch The Subject to compliment her dress and create a classic Hollywood look worthy of a future icon.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus shimmered in a structured silver Monique Lhullier gown and to accent her look the perfect flush of pale pink Blushing Bride was chosen to create a uniform look between fashion and beauty.

Don’t forget “lacquered nails as accessories” have ruled the runways at New York Fashion Week as seen at Ruffian and Zang Toi and the trend actually began with the Ruffian Moon Manicure.

Christina, bementioned, heather neisworth, mad men

Christina Hendricks rocked the red carpet with her signature curves and dark and edgy nails that refused to fade into her black dress designed by Christian Siriano. To achieve this look Stylenomics, a rich dark green hue, was layered with Skirting the Issue, a Wine, Burgundy, Purple mix, to get a fresh but glamorous look that popped against her emerald accessories.

Connie Britton ornate “Ottoman Empire” inspired peacock blue silk velvet strapless gown from designer Naeem Khan stood out against a glam take on the French tip. To get this look start with Go Overboard all over nails, then apply Lux Effects in As Gold As It Gets on the tips, fading down onto the base of the nail.

Anna Faris

Anna Faris shined in a Greecian Inspired Sunny Yellow Monique Lhullier gown so in this fashion case her manicure and pedicure were pared down so they wouldn’t distract from her look; Sandy Beach, a sheer and natural nude, was used for a polished look.

These colors are so beautiful I feel like adding them all to my collection and I will begin with the Go Overboard  and As Gold As it Gets to create my own unique twist on a French Manicure.

What Emmy Red Carpet trend will you be wearing this fall?

Top 10 Tips to Write Good Web Content

My mind is swimming with tons of facts, from the start of Fall Fashion, to analyzing my notes from New York Fashion Week for Spring 2014  it is important for me to get my content calendar ready and more importantly to write some stellar features; and so as I think about this topic here are my Top Ten Tips to Write Good Web Content.

googleplus, #facebook, #spring, 10 tips for good web writing, bementioned, content writing best practices, fall fashion, how to write good web content, it, mobile, mobile marketing, New York Fashion Week, online marketing, pinterest, pinteresting, social media, spring 2014, TWITTER, web content tips, write good web content, write good web pages, writing for the web, web content

Writing a column or a personal blog can be daunting: you need to make contacts to get the latest information, curate content and write the content (while making the text perfect for web use).

So what is the best way to write good web content?  Well that is the question I am looking to answer today, and here are a few of my suggestions that I use when I am writing.  I also have five tips to create you own Social Media calendar (and a free Downloadable Calendar for you to use) on Bementioned and I would be honored if you would check it out.

  • Show a Unique Point of View

Write about something that you are passionate and knowledgeable about and show off your expertise.

  • Include Hyperlinks

Don’t be afraid to include hyperlinks because they are a great way to offer your readers even more insights and information. And if you are afraid to offer links because you may send web traffic to another site — and you can always choose the “open link in another window” option if you’re that concerned about keeping your traffic.

  • Keep Paragraphs Short

Did you know users usually leave a web pages in between 10-20 seconds? This means people rarely read Web pages word by word; instead, they scan the page, picking out individual words and sentences so write short, concise sentences to have short relevant paragraphs.

  • Know your Audience

It’s very important to understand your target audience.  What are the needs, the hopes, the interests of the people that you want to read your audience? Get to understand their unique viewpoint and write to that personality.

  • Use Spellcheck

Be consistent in checking content for correct spelling, grammar and punctuation. A website with content that contains grammatical and spelling errors can lack credibility and doesn’t cast your personal brand and your content in a favorable light.

  • Do your Research

Readers are very educated today and what they don’t know, they can easily Google to get the answer.  So, make sure you have validated any facts in your content and get to make friends with Dictionary and as I am sure they have missed your company since middle school.

  • Use Simple Language

Be simple when creating your content.  Sure you may be able to use the latest Buzzword by if it means nothing to your audience you will loose them. Write in plain language keep the fancy phrases for your MBA paper.

  • Keep it Fresh

Publish frequently and with a schedule.  Nothing can loose a reader quicker than when they visit you site and there is no new information.  Create a content calendar and stick to it, so you can always delight your readers with new information.

  • Use Interesting Images

Pictures are a great way to engage your audience.  Make sure you images are relevant for your content and ensure images are resized so that they don’t increase page download times.

  • Write about what you love

What are you an expert in?  Do you love racing cars or the latest makeup? Whatever is your passion begin to write about it.  It’s a great big world out there and chances are there are people who share your same interest or think of it as an opportunity to educate people.  Either way write about what you love, not what people expect you to write about.

I hope these tips and the downloadable calendar help you improve your own content or get you on your way to a new blog or career.

Bright Orange Lips Trend for Spring 2014 at Rag and Bone

Orange Lips made headlines at Rag and Bone for New York Fashion Week Spring 2014.

#NYFW, #spring, #springtrends, beauty trends, brazil, brazil world cup, bright colors, cosmetics, Dennis Basso, DKNY, gucci westman, lipgloss, Lipliner, ipstick, matte lipstick, mercedes benz new york fashion week, New York Fashion Week, Prabal Gurung, Rag and Bone, revlon, spring makeup, Spring trends, spring2014, world cup

This orange is a bright matte shade, created by makeup artist and Revlon Global Artistic Director Gucci Westman. The special shade is inspired by the Brazil World Cup.

This groundbreaking shade, which is custom created and not available for purchase was created by layering Revlon ColorBurst Matte Balm in Mischievous and Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Carnival together. Both shades are not yet available but will be arriving to stores in 2014; but in case you need to wear the trend now a good alternative is Tart and Trendy, a bright neutral orange lipstick cream by MAC Cosmetics.

Bright Orange lips were also seen on the runways at DKNY, Dennis Basso and Prabal Gurung.

A special tip to remember when creating this look is to protect your lips from drying out, in order for the matte look to look perfect, place a hydrating color first on your lips then a liner over the color.

Let me know if you plan on rocking the Orange Matte look for this spring or will you be wearing it sooner?

Ballet Chic at Zang Toi for Spring 2014

Zang Toi for Spring 2014 created his own beautiful ‘Ballet Chic’ aesthetic for Spring 2014.

Sitting close to the front row, those of us in attendance got amazed by the elegant start of the show when the American Ballet Theatre’s Principal Dancer Cory Stearns opened the show with a brief but beautiful ballet, setting a theme of classical ballet and fashion.

#NYFW, american ballet theatre, ballet, ballet chic, Birchbox, blue, cashmere, chignon, Cory Stearns, hair trends, Marc Jacobs, nailpolish, nailpolish trends, New York City, new york fashion week spring 2014, organiza, over the knee boots, pink, Ruffian, ruffian moon manicure, silk, Spring trends, stuart weitzman, zang toi, zoya

The Ballet Chic look looks like it will be a big trend for Spring 2014, and is characterized by hues of pale blue, ballet slipper-pink, navy and black.

Characterized by the fluid movement in the clothes, this ballet look is accented by delicate ruffles, the light and airy look is crafted from Silks, Organza and daytime Cashmere.

Runway hair shined with a sophisticated take on the classic ballerina chignon and resulted in a simple elegance. While classic ballet hair is traditionally pulled back, this look contained romantic waves on the side and an oversized low chignon  to create a modern look.  Makeup was simply with glowing skin and a little blush on the cheek.

Zang Toi - Runway - Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2014

Black matte leggins are a definite must and should be in every girls closet along with a pair of suede booties or over the knee boots for spring and also for fall 2013.  So while in New York City to cover the shows at New York Fashion Week I stocked up on my own personal ‘must have list’ for fall and picked up my own pair of over the knee boots by Stuart Weitzman.

zang_toi_trio_0813_450Trending big all over the tents for spring is nail lacquer as necessary accessory, and as Zang Toi is following in the steps of many design houses like Ruffian and Marc Jacobs who launched their own lines.  Models wore the dark noir “Black Swan” nail color on the runway; which is part of a limited edition trio of polishes from Zoya and  includes Ballet Babe – a flowing pink, Boy Toi – a delicate blue cream and Black Swan a deep black.

What is your ‘must have item’ for spring that you can also wear for fall 2013?
